Robert Roth’s Sky Field paintings grow out of a long relationship with landscape and memory. Rather than depicting a specific place, these works are about the feeling of “being" — the openness of the horizon, the weight of the sky, and the quiet space where emotion and atmosphere meet. Roth works with fluid, gestural brushstrokes that move between reality and abstraction. He isn’t trying to paint the sky as it appears, but the way it feels — the sense of vastness, light, and shifting weather that can feel both grounding and dreamlike at the same time. The landscapes often open onto an endless horizon, creating a stage for reflection and calm. Many of these paintings come from memory and intuition, shaped by years of studying the landscape from life, particularly the marsh fields and shorelines that have stayed with him over time. These places resurface not as exact views, but as impressions — moments drawn from the subconscious. Movement plays an important role in the work. Sweeping skies and changing cloud forms echo the rhythms of nature, allowing the paintings to move between drama and serenity.
