Robert Roth juxtaposes the relationship of architectural symmetry as it relates to the open ocean horizon. He blends layers of varied color, texture, painted cut-papers and patterning depicting a solitude moment, void of beach crowds and clutter. Within his "Ocean Beach" works, he explores the relationship between man and nature while paring down the geometric elements of everyday life. He is highly influenced by the simplicity of David Hockey’s 60’s Palm Springs pool paintings as well as Romare Bearden's gritty urban textural painted cut-paper collages from the early 70's. Robert also had the opportunity to show with Romare Bearden and others during "The American Collage Exhibition"
